COMPANY

Astley & Meslet is a French/English literary and design collaboration based in London and Lyon. Founded by creative directors Philip Astley (architect, writer, and composer) and David Meslet (illustrator, educationalist, and actor).

We are a design and publishing studio: illustrated novellas, language-learning stories, audio production (film and book narration), music composition (for the book), and character designs on apparel.

We create by hand in pen and ink before we digitise our designs for production. Our stories and apparel designs are the spirit of a French summer guinguette; by the river or the sea, relaxing with friends, après sport. 

We make decisions on our products and outputs based on our experience of artisanal and architectural ecology with suppliers, readers, and customers.

BIOGRAPHY

We share a love of music and film that inspires our creations. Philip composes music to accompany our French/English stories. David performs with his francophone theatre company in London. Living in London and Lyon, we have family in the Caribbean and southern Africa; their perspective on the world influences our work.

We believe artisanal creativity is key to changing individual lives; instigating projects and inspiring collaborations.
